5 Exercises to Get Rid of Tennis Elbow
Просмотров 4514 дней назад
One thing I always teach my patients and students alike is that all the muscles of the elbow get started in the shoulder. The other group muscles that start in the elbow, go down to the wrist and fingers. This is basic anatomy. Because we know this about anatomy, then why did the therapists only treat the elbow when you have elbow pain? Try these exercises. Hands-on Therapy Services helps peopl...
These 2 Things are Making Your Tennis Elbow WORSE

Do you feel like you have to constantly stretch your wrist and arms? It feels good when you do it but the good feeling doesn’t last and you find yourself stretching and stretching? That tightness in your forearm makes you think you have a tennis elbow. Everything you read up on points you in the direction of tennis elbow. But is it true? It’s possible that you have a component of tennis elbow. ...
What Works for Tennis Elbow - Wrist Splint or Forearm Strap?
Просмотров 2828 дней назад
Tennis elbow pain is just annoying until one day, it can feel debilitating because it seems everything you do, hurts the elbow. This is tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis in its most severe form. There’s a LOT that you can do before it ever gets this way. A common question I receive as a certified hand therapist is “What is better? The wrist splint or the forearm strap?” I don’t love either ...
Why Traditional Hand Therapy is NOT Helping With your Thumb Pain
Просмотров 66Месяц назад
Traditional hand therapy can be great for some thumb pain and injuries such as fractures or ligament tears that require surgery. But what about the chronic thumb pain that seems to come from nowhere? The kind of thumb pain that lingers - gets better and then gets worse? But traditional hand therapy might not help you if you have these symptoms: 1. Anything where you feel the pain deep-deep insi...

You want quick fixes when you get hurt. When it comes to sprains and strains, it just seems so confusing because - it’s not broken, it’s not torn….but yet it keeps hurting. WHY? No two injuries are the same. This is especially true for ANY sprains and strains. What happens with the wrist though when there’s a wrist sprain? The wrist is made up of 8 small bones that are like little pebbles. It’s...

Does Squeezing a Ball Help Trigger Finger or Thumb?
After having the release surgery, the end of my pinky finger is ultra sensitive, and painful to the touch. My doctor said the cord was wrapped around the nerve. Any thing I can do to relieve the sensitivity?
Thank you so much for posting
Thanks so much for posting. My son just got a boxers fracture last night in his first boxing match last night. (Still won, but no fun today) just trying to learn as much as possible.
Sorry to hear that. Good luck to him and congratulations for the win!
Do you accept insurance?
We work with some insurances. If you would like to know more based on your plan, give our office a call :) thank you!
I hope I haven't waited too long trying to self-treat. I'm emailing my doctor by email tonight. Thanks for the warning
Thanks for watching. It’s okay to try the self treatment way…as long as know when to look for help. That’s the most important aspect and why I’m sharing as much as I can.
I had therapy before having surgery & have kept it up on my own (surgery is 8-14) Do you think that helps with the after effects of surgery? Would appreciate your thoughts small full thickness tear & split tear of intra-articulated long head of bicep tendon thank you
It’s really important for therapy after a surgery no matter how much therapy you had before. A great therapist can help spot areas you can’t spot and help progress you. You don’t always need a ton…but that’s up to you and your therapist depending on your goals. Most people limit themselves to only achieving a fraction of the recovery they are capable of getting. Hope that helps.
@@HandsOnTherapyServicesIncMiami I just noticed I messed up with my surgery date (didn’t happen yet) is Oct 14! I was going to therapy & I have just continued doing the same exercises every other day until surgery. I was wondering if this will help in my recovery Sorry for the mess up
@@HandsOnTherapyServicesIncMiami Yes therapy after for sure! This has dragged on for 9 months already I’m so ready for surgery I’m an active 73 yr old I miss my xercise classes so much thank you
Very informative and well explained. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
You are a wonderful therapist, Hoang. I could sure use your help with my wrist and both thumbs. I wish you were in New Jersey. And I enjoy all of your videos. Thank you. George
Thank you. That’s sweet. I hope you a fast and easy recovery 🙏
Absolutely - broke my finger a few weeks ago playing hockey. My finger was hit straight on by a ball and I knew the force of the impact was enough to break bone from other peoples experience. I wasn’t losing motion yet but got X-rays just to be sure and it showed 2 fractures in the distal phalanx Always get imaging so u can be sure 👍
Good! Hope you had a fast recovery:)
My pinky & ring finger *on **_both_** hands* have curled downward over the last 2 weeks, and I can't straighten them by their own strength(but I can straighten them by other means). How long until permanent nerve/muscle damage?(I have an appointment to see an orthopedic doctor on August 16th).
It's fine. Just don't keep delaying your appointment. The way nerves works is by the time you feel or see it, it's already been happening for a while. How much damage and recovery will be based on clinical tests and therapy to see what can be done. Good luck!
Thank you for the effort and the information you shared
Thank you for watching :)
The time and date is 1:30 am July 28th'24. Moving rocks in search of one todo a job for me, in my backyard, I got bitten or stung by something beneath a rock, maybe a rosebush needle I don't know. It might have hit the finger bone. This happened near 3 pm today 28th July. Some swelling for about 2 hours. The pain has reduced a lot. A thought of it being a finger sprain brought me to your video, Mrs Tron. Should I visit my family physician ? Thank You from Roy
Sure if you want. You can also go to a hand surgeon and see what they say. Good luck!
My finger got better. It was a wasp beneath a stone that stung me.
You have given me new hope that my recovery from biceps tenodesis and full thickness supraspinatus tear is still on track. I am 4 months post op and still quite stiff and sore. I was thinking I might need a steroid shot… I don’t think so now after watching and understanding that I just need more time. Thankyou! Ps I also had CMC arthroplasty on same side 5 months before the shoulder surgery. My thumb is still sore and I am thinking that the shoulder surgery impeded my process on my thumb rehab.
Keep working on getting progress. Yes the thumb can be affected by issues of the shoulder. Good luck!
I had rotator tear repair and bicep tendon repair. its. been brutal.
I'm on day 6 and the pain is a 10
Thanks, i am having a surgerical release. I have severe ulnar nerve entrapment, muscle wasteing in between pointer and thumb, and some along the palm under the pinky, i was having a hard time even sealing a zip lock bag. Middle finger and thumb seem to still have full strength. Cant wait for this to be relieved, i like to use rowing machine, free weights , hit the heavy bag. I have also learned not lean on the left arm at the computer desk and also i always tended to hold my phone up to my ear with the left hand , my job as electrician , also may have contributed, hands bent overhead on a ladder.
Good luck! 🙏
Thank you so much for video. I have recently been diagnosed with cubital tunnel syndrome. EMT did full work up . Said it was very serious - and therapy would not help. My symptoms are like previous poster chancessalcedo. Would you suggest trying therapy before surgery. The doctor said the first surgery is the one you described, but it’s possible I could need two additional surgeries . I would see you but I’m on west coast . Any thoughts you have are appreciated. Thank you Joan Wagner
I have had a straight cast for 2 weeks, just got switched to a bent finger cast. I'm scared that I waited too long
It’s okay. Work with a trusted hand therapist and keep working towards getting results.
Can that problem solve really that pip part iam asking?
I’m not sure what the video is and what you are asking. Sorry.
Thank you so much. I have numbness in my pinky and ring finger since April. I went to a hand specialist who said therapy won’t help. Needless to say I’m going next week to another doctor up at Hospital for Special Surgery in NY. I had an emg done which didn’t show cubital tunnel but I have all of the symptoms. I’m hoping this new doctor can help me. Is this something you’ve seen before with a normal emg but all the signs of cubital tunnel?
I tell my patients/students all the time that nerves are completely different from bones and tendons. Emg don’t always see everything. Nerve tension is something that is felt. And nerves are always injured/stuck above where the problem is felt. Therapy can help when you go to the right therapist. Good luck with the doctor’s visit. If you need help, our clinic website is in the links.
I have an avulsion fracture its been 6 days already ivr been splinting with a slight curve . Is it better to hsve splint straight or curve? Plz Doc any advice would b appreciated
Thanks for watching. We have other videos that talk about finger fractures and splints. We can’t give personalized medical advice but straight vs flexed splint is based on the direction of a fracture and if there’s concern to stabilize the fracture without surgery. Talk to your trusted therapist to fully understand the problem - the nature of an avulsed fracture means that a broken piece is not in its place.
@@HandsOnTherapyServicesIncMiami but can i gain back atleast 90%ROM thru therapy? For an acute avulsion fracture?? I fell on my hand and 2 fingers got it.
@@HandsOnTherapyServicesIncMiamisorry if im asking too many questions but do u know if the broken part reconnects during recovery?
Much gratitude
Thanks for watching.
This video has been of fanatic relief to me. I jolted my thumb (pushed out then back in) while getting myself up at the gym today and have been getting increasingly demotivated as my thumb gets stiffer and more painful to move. How long would you reccomend to leave it rest until I start attempting range of movement and motion rehab?
Thanks for watching. Glad this video was helpful. We can’t give personalized medical advice but if you watch some of the other videos that talk about gaining thumb motion that may help guide you. Normally I tell my patients/students if it’s not broken or torn, you can start gently moving - don’t be scared but get professional help when you know you need it.
I had surgery 6 weeks ago. Doing therapy but starting to feel slight pain in other shoulder. I was doing constant lifting. Starting to exercise both shoulders.
Good luck with your recovery🙏
What about steroid shot. Do you think that helps with cubital syndrome at all?
I don’t normally see injections for cubital tunnel. The nerve is very superficial and there’s a big risk of injuring the nerve itself. Therapy is very effective when you go to the right person. If that doesn’t work, most people try surgery.
@@HandsOnTherapyServicesIncMiami thank you for the reply. I am in the army and the doctor is suggesting I get the steroid shot to help with the pain, kind of scared to
2 sugars luv!😂
😂
I fell and had 2 full thicknesses tears with retractions and the other 2 tendons were less than 30% left. 7 anchors were put into my shoulder in surgery. This is week 10 and it's still hell. Hopefully things get better. Thanks for the video
Sorry to hear about that. Sounds like a terrible fall. I hope you recover fast!
Every person has different recovery time after any surgery I'm waiting to see another specialist to see what he suggests I had a bad fall on a path damaged should again , this time its full thickness sub scapular n suprinatus tendon tears, heavily bruised knees n face my hubby is my carer n he wrks nights n sleeps during the day. Tiredness will get to both of us if I go surgery way.
Thank you mam.pls share the link of hand journels.
I don’t have journals. I read books, take courses, and create from my own experiences and learnings. If you want to learn more as a therapist, look up hand therapy secrets where I do most of my teaching for other therapists to develop their clinical skills.
Things to avoid at initial stage???
Thank you for the suggestion. We shall try to create something in the future.
Great explanation, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
i have numbness in my 4th and 5th fingers and also weakness in the pinch grip between my thumb and index finger. I've had a triple cervical fusion last June due to stenosis and bone spurs, but it didn't help my numbness. It's been 2-1/2 years since it's gone numb (about a week after a fall). it's not like i've ignored it. it took 9 months just to get it diagnosed and surgery on my neck. either that wasn't the cause or it was already too late by then. i doubt it'll ever come back at this point even if i get elbow surgery.
Sorry to hear that. 😢 Good luck if you do decide to go ahead with the elbow surgery.
Thanks for this video. My Dr referred me to physical therapy and I didn't know they could help me. I'm gonna call pt back
Thanks for the zero advice
Thanks for watching a clip of a longer form video. 🤷🏻♀️
So what is the solution for the pain?
There’s a few longer form video that can be helpful. It’s impossible to solve things in a video that’s 60 sec or less
this is a common injury in arm wrestling i was so shocked that i knew exactly what it was, its crazy how similar arm wrestling and baseball are
Thanks for watching. Yes there’s definitely similarities.
Your cute
Thanks.
Thank ypu so much for such a great information? If l have cubital tunnel release and csrpal tunnel surgeries at the same time; can l still do the exercises you mentioned? Thank you so much!
The exercises are just depending on your symptoms, how you do them, and how you respond. But having both surgeries are common and your doctor or therapist will guide you to what’s allowed and what’s not. Hope that helps.
thanks
Thanks for watching.
Pendulum can tear stitches during first weeks! according to my surgeon.
Sure if done incorrectly…most people do it wrong that’s why going to the right place makes such big difference. Also the quality of the tendon makes a difference too, not just therapy. But hopefully everything is well with your recovery.
Once muscle wasting starts, how fast does it progress? Weeks, months, or years? I get that sooner is better, but can the surgery be put off a few months without much additional loss of function, or should it be done at first available opportunity?
Atrophy or muscle wasting always depends on the mechanism of injury, the severity, and length of the problem. So it’s too vague to give a definitive answer like the one you are looking for. Your question is best answered by the surgeon who you have picked to go to or your trusted occupational/hand therapist who may have treated you before the surgery and who you may consider to go to after. We are located in Miami, FL if you are local or consultations as you need.
@@HandsOnTherapyServicesIncMiami Thanks for the thoughtful response. I saw the hand surgeon for carpal tunnel in one hand only to find out I needed surgery in both arms - carpal tunnel in one, ulnar release in the other. I was too shocked to ask the right questions! I never thought much about the mild numbness in one pinky, and hadn't noticed the muscle atrophy in that hand until he pointed it out to me. Just thought it was a natural consequence of aging! I'm on the other side of the country, but I hope I can find a hand therapist as thoughtful and caring as you in my area. Thanks again for the reply.
My husband has cubital tunnel AND carpal tunnel surgery almost two weeks ago. He had a bit of claw deformity in his ring finger before surgery that is still an issue now. He also has some tremors with some purposeful movements. This was happening before surgery and now (almost two weeks post surgery) is still occasionally happening. For example when using his hand to hold a fork or picking up a cup, he will sometimes tremor. Can he expect any resolution of this issue in the coming months? Or in your experience do you think this will require an additional surgery? Or maybe that issue will just persist? He’s “okay” with the claw deformity, but he’s struggling with having tremors with purposeful movement. 😞 He’s still working and needs his hands. Plus he’s embarrassed when others notice the tremors.
Everyone’s symptoms are so different, length of time, and recovery. It’s important to discuss the case with a trusted Occupational therapist or certified hand therapist. But I do hope he’s going for therapy.
He just started therapy today with an OT certified in Hand Therapy, so I feel he will get the best care. Time and exercises will tell I guess.
THANK YOU SO MUCH🥹
You’re welcome 😊
Shooting finger?? Cleet??
It could be?
Hello mam , my father is suffering from finger stiffness and he is not able to make his fist close , please mam answer me i am really worried about this please .......actually my father middle finger is fractured due to accident and there was a plaster on whole hand ....now he is un able to move fingers and make fist .....
Thanks for watching. Hopefully some of the other videos can help guide you as we can’t give any personal medical advice.
Thanks for sharing the information, but needed pictures/links for the proper brace or splint that would be helpful to get rid of trigger thumb and meds for the pain. I need something to help stop my thumb from popping while I'm working.
Noted! Thanks!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I have trigger fingers, 2-3 per hand, had them since i was a teen. never knew it had a name. the crack so loud if squeeze my hand, that I can pretend to crack other things.
Wow crazy. I wonder if that’s something kinda different, especially since you had it as a teen. 🤔
@@HandsOnTherapyServicesIncMiami No pain involved. And a subtle closing of the hands doesn’t “trigger” it. Just when I clench and it doesn’t fade with repetition.
I had my surgery on 3-13-24. Nerve block didn't work on me. My surgeon told me I would be out of my sling in 3-4 days. I would start physical therapy in 5-7 days. I spent the first couple nights in the recliner. I was off my pain meds and out of my sling on day 3. I can't lift more then 5lbs per surgeon. I have started home exercises i was given. This is day 7 for me. If i move my shoulder to much it hurts but for the most part everything is going good for me. Other than having someone drive me for the first four days I haven't had help from anyone. I also when back to work the day after surgery babysitting a one year old.
Good luck in your recovery and get all your motion back.
How is that possible with a rotator cuff surgery?? 3-4 days!!
Do? Do what? What are the great tips your friend? Started what?
The video was created in 2019 😂🤷🏻♀️I have no idea what was said…just out here trying to provide information. If you want….check out some of our newer videos which have a lot more demonstrations vs explaining the WHY of getting help fast is important. Help is available even if not in this video. Good luck!
Dr told me wait 3 weeks and THEN start physiotherapy. Now 3 weeks later finger is stif and swollen and little blue
Yes…when there is a dislocation, it’s important to let it get stiff and rest for a few weeks. The stiffness and swelling are normal after an injury to the fingers…get hand therapy to help move it the right way. Check out some of our newer videos. Good luck.
Thank you so much . @@HandsOnTherapyServicesIncMiami
This video was reassuring, I'm going to have surgery, and the videos I've been watching are very helpful. Thank you.
So glad you found it helpful.! Good luck!
My thumb feeds numb the big knuckle(second knuckle from finger tip). Because it gives me anxiety at night not feeling my thumb's knuckle. It doesn't hurt at all because there is no feeling in that movement. The anxiety just started in the last 2 months. But i did have a sprain that happened when I was 14. I'm now 33. Never had this anxiety issue until recently.
Sorry to hear that. Hope you get help and feel better soon 🫶
How much does it cost to get these services because just meeting with doctors cost a lot and I can barely pay for it.
Just depends on what you need and how severe your injuries are. If you find a therapist in your local area that you trust, they can help you make that determination if they helps or if you need other medical treatments. If you are in Miami, check out our website and see how we can help you.
